Tennyson:  Mariana, The Lady of Shalott, The Palace of Art

Mariana by John Everett Millais, 1851Reading Tennyson
There is so much demand for my two chapters on Blake that it is clear that A-level students in particular are avid for help with reading their set poems. I have never before written on Tennyson, though I have often taught him, and have plenty of material on him for an essay, culminating in a close reading of a single poem (which connects with many others, particularly Mariana and The Palace of Art), The Lady of Shalott.
